“Time to get slutty,” Kim Petras says as she air kisses the camera with glossy lips that recall juicy tubes and strawberry-flavored lip balm. And slutty we get.

Her EP Slut Pop dropped yesterday, right in time for Valentine’s Day weekend. Known most for her Halloween-themed releases, this year she’s playing cupid. With song titles like “Throat Goat”, “They Wanna Fuck”, and “Treat Me Like A Slut” it’s safe to say that this is not Petras’ abstinence era.

The highly anticipated “Hit It From The Back” (which dedicated fans have frankensteined together from snippets) and her earlier released “Coconuts”, aren’t on this EP but are expected on her upcoming album, set to release in March.

With a total of seven tracks and a runtime of just over fifteen minutes, the EP is a full-on (though short) celebration of sex. “Take your bitch kinda shit, slap my ass kinda shit (...) OnlyFans kinda shit,” Petras sings in the opening track. This is Slut Pop; it’s straightforward and unapologetic. It recalls y2k celebrity scandals, leaked sex tapes, and early internet debauchery.

The promotional images, shot by Devian Kasparian, play into this as well; the photos of Petras on a black leather couch, in a bikini top in the shower, or in stripper heels on her bed could easily be found in an early 00’s trash mag.

It’s this commitment to the concept that we love most about the EP. It’s glitter tattoos and low-waisted jeans, plait mini skirts, and porn cliches. It’s sexy and explicit; a Valentine's Day chocolate box for the single and slutty.

The songs have, unsurprisingly for Petras, danceable beats and lyrics that would boarder on cringy if she wasn’t as tongue-in-cheek about her music. The tracks blend seamlessly into each other and offer a cohesive musical ride with moans, groans, and even goat sounds sprinkled in for a full sex-positive fantasy.

That said, few of the songs really stick to your brain, and, much like a chocolate box, are a great time while being experienced but not too memorable once turned off, with a few exceptions.

Overall, it’s a great time. Petras shows the value of a short and concentrated passion project. ‘Slut Pop’ is fun, confident, and unpretentious, just like we like our sluts.
